Lets first lists the common reasons that depression causes, such as sadness, feeling sick, feeling that you are worthless, feeling that there is no place for you on this earth and society, feeling concern and worries with variety of problems that you are encountering in your life. To men, depression is likely to make them act violently towards others and becoming addicted to alcohol.
Why is it hard to tell if men have depression?
The reason is because men often time deny that they have problems that are influencing their emotions. This is likely due to the fact that men are taught that, expressing too much emotions are the sign of feminist. Therefore a man tends to keep their feelings to themselves rather than express it, leading to the unknown truth to their feelings. It is very often that men find excuses to deny that they are feeling depressed or are having problems. Such as “I just played basketball and I’m feeling really tired right now, don’t worry about me I’m fine. Or “No, I have so much homework; I can’t make it to the party tonight”.
Men when encountering depression often turn to things that would distract them from sadness and stress. Such as smoking cigarettes, doing drugs, cocaine and becoming addicted to alcohol. These acts are believed to be worthwhile in doing for men and for the sake of putting their minds off depression. The depression on men can impact their sexual activities as well, in that they would likely become less interested in sex. However, depending on people, some might become even more interested in sexual activities.
